SDY Case Registry

The Sudden Death in the Young (SDY) Case Registry, which first began in Michigan in 2019, is funded by the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). The SDY Case Registry gathers information from a variety of sources to learn more about young people through the age of 18 who die suddenly and unexpectedly. The goals of the SDY Case Registry are to increase the understanding of the prevalence, causes, and risk factors for infants, children, and adolescents who die suddenly and unexpectedly and to inform strategies to prevent future deaths.

The following Michigan counties currently participate in the SDY Case Registry:

  • Allegan County
  • Barry County
  • Berrien County
  • Calhoun County
  • Cass County
  • Grand Traverse County
  • Kalamazoo County
  • Leelanau County
  • Mason County
  • Muskegon County
  • St. Joseph County
  • Van Buren County

The SDY Case Registry Data Coordinating Center is located in Michigan at the Michigan Public Health Institute (MPHI). Michigan’s SDY Case Registry is housed within the Center for Child and Family Health at MPHI.
